August 20, 2007 - we all know that when we are busy doing, we are slacking talking about it. this has been a busy summer, some of which was actual vacation!
the Lobster Boy show was phenomenal. I really enjoyed working w/ Lobs and crew. I am looking forward to future shows with these guys.
in July, I visited Asheville, NC to EmCee and perform in the Asheville Burlesque Sideshow Festival. I played to a sold out house of over 500 people! it was a huge and fantastic crowed! and I had the honor of meeting and sharing a stage with Burlesque Bellydance legend Princess Farhana! I'm in love! she will be doing a show in NYC in October and I will hopefully be setting up a special guest appearance at the Palace.
August was part vacation and part misc. the rest of the calendar year looks like it might be packed, so I wanted to take some weekends to myself while I could. I will be putting the spit and polish on my schedule in the next few days and I will be posting the updates here!
this fall looks like it's going to be fun!!!!
as always, see you at the Palace!
June 28, 2007 - Hey folks! it's that time of year! See Mab Just Mab this weekend at the Lobsterboy's TIKI PARTY FROM HELL!!
June 11, 2007 - I added an Archive page for old news, not that anything I ever do is "old news", but you know what I mean :-)
I also updated many of up my upcoming shows. but other than that, this is a pretty weak update. :-) more soon............
June 8, 2007 - Cheeky Monkey Sideshow performed at the Palace of Wonders. and, if I don't say so myself, it was a great time! I'm rather enjoying the regular monthly gig, it's great to see familiar faces come out, time and again! and I love meeting new people! last Friday's show was a great reminder of how much I love the Palace.
Coming up! the one year anniversary for the Palace of Wonders! you don't want to miss that!!!!
May 23, 2007 - er, bad Mab hasn't updated her website... ooops. apologies. allow me to remedy that.
recent happenings! tons of shows! Artomatic! Cheeky Monkey at the Palace of wonders! you know! you were there! I don't need to tell you what happened. :-)
but I ~will~ say.... the Cheeky Monkey Pajama Party was a BLAST!!! if you missed it, I really feel bad for you. we all were adorably dressed in our jammies, and the Pajama Fashion Contest was a HOOT!! there were some amazing PJ's out there. and some really sexy ones too! merrrow!
I hope to have some pics soon!
the DCTribal Artomatic Hafla was a huge success! V:Shal is an amazing DJ and we hope to do more events with him in the future.
this is the busy season. tons of festivals and events, not all of them are mine!
what I have coming up:
Playa Del Fuego - May 25-28, 2007. This is a Burning event, where I get to just show up and be a freak amongst freaks!
Darabukistani Independance Day - June 1-3, 2007. I have gone every year (but one, and I won't be making that mistake again anytime soon). this is a small event, less than 100 folks, on a friend's farm, Spirithaven, in southwestern VA. this is where folks can just chill out, play music w/ some amazing musicians, paddle on a lake, dance, hang w/ peacocks, and have a great time. last year, Shek invited some Tuvian Throat Singers! it was amazing. I wonder what's in store for this year!!!
Other upcoming events!
June 23, 2007 - The 25 annual Mermaid Parade! a group of cheeky monkeys are going to try to head up! check it out!
July 13-15 2007 - ABSFEST

Friday, March 30th - 98Rock Morning Radio show appearance! besides being up at an ungawdly hour, I had a great time! I met up with Swami Yomahmi and James Taylor (I love those guys!) to promote the cheeky monkey sideshow and James Taylor's lecture series at the Palace of Wonders! I was a hoot hearing everyone tell me that they heard me on the radio. read more about that adventure here.
Thursday, March 29th - Pirates Vs. Ninja - was a great time! we are editing the footage and should have something out soon! stay tuned!
March 28, 2007 - as some folks have mentioned, the season has begun!
We are all getting much busier. And with me gimpy knee healing up, I'm being more active, getting out more, and doing more shows and events.
Last weekend, I, sadly, missed Tribal Cafe because I was involved with a planing meeting for a new circus arts festival. (more details on that soon enough!)
I want to take a moment to tell the Tribal Cafe crew that I really miss you guys! I miss getting to hang out with some of my friends. at the same time, I am getting wonderful opportunities to hang out with other friends more. why do I have to choose?
be sure to check out the list of some of my upcoming shows!
We all get super busy this time of year. It's one of those things that happen when you are in this business.
I also am trying out a new Photo Pages format. Check it out and let me know what you think!
March 8, 2007 - I have been busy recovering from my knee surgery. But in the mean time, I've decided to start sideshowing again! it's been far too long. and to that end, I would like to announce -
This Friday! at the Palace of Wonders, the Cheeky Monkey sideshow will be back for their monthly slot! come out and show your love for DC's only Sideshow!
December 27, 2006 - Time again for another update!!!!
let's go back to just over a week ago. that's right, jugglers and
acrobats had decended upon my humble abode, in preperation for the
Accidental Circus show
at the Palace of Wonders.
it was a real treat to work with Cameron from Barely
Balaced. very talented boy. I love the acrobatic feats he added
to the show!
as it was our holiday spectacular, Paolo convinced
me to stick a candy cane up my nose. ow. yea. ow. I don't reccomend
it. really. no. don't do it. ow.
we brought out the double
stack bed of nails. this is probably one of the most difficult
feats I do. I was on the bottom, with madcat and a coffin shaped
bed of nails on top of me. my back was like hamburger after this
one. a friend of mine kept saying to me after the show "but why
did you guys use the biggest fella on stage???? why didn't you use
the little guy???" I must admit, I was kind of wondering that myself
;-) oh, that's right, Cameron is too talented in other ways to get
on a bed of nails ;-) Madcat? he's expendable.
we closed the show with a rousing version of Ciggereets
and Whuskey and Wild wild women, a long time dream of mine and
Paolo's. we also sold a bunch of t-shirts,
and folks were asking about getting tank tops. next run we do, I
think we will have to have some baby dolls and tanks :-D
many thanks to Stephanie for the pics!!! (which can be found here,
in no perticular order)
December 3, 2006 - apologies for the lack of updates, (if
you are getting restless and want more instant gratification of
updates, check here). I have been busy
working on some promo items for upcoming events!
I also updated the AboutMab page
a little. it's harder than you think to talk about myself. ;-)
The next amazing thing I have coming up will be the
Accidental Circus! this will be my LAST SHOW for
the next several months! (Dr.'s orders!) I don't know how I'm going
to be able to keep from booking shows.... maybe if someone nails
my foot to the floor and keeps me away from the internet.
November 26, 2006 - DCTribal
Cafe - this was amazing! I was really touched (not in ~that~
way...)by all the people who came out. seeing the community grow
like it has, warms my heart and motivates me to keep contributing
and creating! some comments I heard from the evening - "That
was the best intro to a cane dance I have ~ever~ seen!" so
if you missed it....hopefully I will bring that piece out again
next year ;-)
November 20, 2006 - monday!!! whew, what a whirlwind
weekend. it was quite long. I am nearly recovered from the killer
cold I got down in richmond a week ago. taking saturday off to chill
and putz around the house helped infinitely. I did some updating
of the website, as you can see, and put up notice of upcoming
shows.
November 19, 2006 - Cheeky Monkey Sideshow @ the
Palace. was a small, intimate show. kind of quite, but a nice sunday
night. we all were recovering from a lovely assortment of colds
and winter maladyies. but all in all, I really felt good about the
show. the small crowed that made it out, was treated to some stellar
performances. I did manage to cut myself a few times though, I guess
I was really pushing myself to see how far I could go. I learn a
little more every time I do my act. oh, and I broke my own personal
record for the straight jacket escape, Under a minute!!!! whooohoo!!!
November 17, 2006 - DC Bound? Todd, the organizer of a club/events in DC saw my show for the HIPS benefit, and invited me to check out his event, Bound, for their Carnival night. I will admit, though I was exhausted from the cold and being so busy, I couldn't say no. I met some more local sideshow artists, and a wonderful woman who will be assisting me in some of my escape practices. (it's hard to find good help for some of my practice ;-) November 16, 2006 - HiPS benefit show @ the Palace of Wonders! This show was AMAZING! I had a blast! we raised almost $3,000!!! nearly a record for HIPS. not surprising though. the caliber of talent at this show was worth every penny of the price of admission. I finally got to see Moria and her aerial silks routine. stunning. just .... stunning. -November 15, 2006 - I've got more shows coming up!!! check out my events page to see what's next! -November 14, 2006 - what a weekend! I needed a few days to recover. The Tribal:Pura show was fabulous, and I had a great time working at the StageManager...evil Tyrant, telling all the bellydancers where to go!muahahah!! And Spiral Esperanza in Richmond VA was also a great time! I got to see all my RVABurner buddies. Folks were ~very~ enthusiastic about my one little tiny bit ;-) and of course Shakra dancers blew the night out of the water! I saw some great spoken word artists, a few independent films that got my attention, and some amazing bands! ooh! and victorian burlesque troupe! all was fab. amazing the amount of art in one little space! I recommend going to the next one! don't miss it! - November 9, 2006 - working on getting a pictures pages up. man, this is hard. I don't really want to use frames...but I might have to! *sigh* hopefully I get this working soon! - November 8, 2006 - did a little work on updating more data/upcoming events. *finally!* soon I should be getting more pics up too! these things, they take time! patience people...... October 27, 2006 - Cheeky Monkey Sideshow @ The Palace Of Wonders! I love this place. and I love monkeys! NOT TO BE MISSED! - October 20, 2006 - Victorient in NYC with Zan and the lovely ladies from ChoveXani - October 14-15, 2006- Pa Faire Show w/ ROMKA. what a fun weekend! I was brought in to play percussion for the lovely ladies of Romka. they were fabulous as always. great time had by all! (I got a new hat!!!!) - October 10, 2006 Turku concert was an amazing success! and I should be getting off my buttocks to post pictures soon! (we will see....) - October 8, 2006 - I am very excited to announce that TURKU will be coming to Washington DC area, and more specifically, my STUDIO! *and the crowd goes wilder* - October 5,2006 - I've just acquired a new web site hosting! so that means this page is due to change and grow wildly! *and the crowd goes wild* - September 28 - October 2, 2006 - had a great reunion w/ Paolo Garbanzo as the Accidental circus in Buffalo NY. stayed the weekend up in MA at the King Richards Faire. Met some great new folks, and got to play some music with old friends! - September 21, 2006 - weekend in Nashville TN for a joint sideshow/Bellydance performance w/ the wonderful Girls of ROMKA. it was an amazing Birthday weekend. the show was Fabulous (considering I had a stomacher bug *ick). we even did a great last minute fire-eating/bellydance trio to Corvus Corax that I cannot WAit to see! |
