The Journey Begins

I really didn't know what to expect. The initial drive out to our first destination was listed to be 16 hours. Not as bad as it could have been. What we didn't anticipate was blinding rain, thick fog, and no sleep since 10 am the previous day. All in all, the drive too about 19 hours. There were a few naps on the road, and several cups of coffee, and consequently, several more bathroom breaks.

Driving down Hwy 70The road was long and flat. The drive was long and flat. Then suddenly, something thrust it's way out of the flat plain. It was a giant cross! I was stunned to wakefulness. I had to stop the car. I look up and I see a huge, aluminum cross. I snap a few pictures (risking life and limb) Later inquerey reaveals that I was witness to the worlds "Largest Free Standing Cross". I'm Stunned, once again.

The name of our destination is Saint Louis. Mab was summoned there by a friend of hers, Paolo Garbanzo, to play her drums at a Renniasance Faire. A more superstious individual might look upon the road trip out as a "bad omen", but I do not believe in omens, and Mab is not bright enough to spot them. However, my refusal to believe in omens was shaken when we arrived at the site. We were showed our camp area, or rather, the Lake on top of where our camp area was supposed to be. Much tara forming, digging trenches, using fallen logs to re-direct the creek that was flowing freely through out camp and pulling up wild brush that had overgrown most areas. I don't have much pictures of this due to the fact that we all were working hard.

my home for the next 3 weeksAll that hard work paid off. We finally got a camp that was habitable. Once we dug the appropriate ditches, all the water drained right out of the area into the main creek. We were ready for the Faire!
